The origin story of Hunome

The origin from business perspective was our founder’s, Dominique Jaurola, many Aha moments and a background in high tech product innovation and management, futures thinking and doing (scenario planning and vision creation), knowledge management, business design (models and business process renewal) and human-awareness at scale.

In her work in strategy and change she saw a lack of connecting-the-dots leaving a lot of understanding not included in innovative strategies, leading to missed opportunities and risks playing out.

In product innovation she understood the limitations of many methods to understand the changing world and to understand this globally as well as contextually. She talks about the human wine cellar that is needed for us humans to mature ourselves to the novel ideas, through deliberation.

She built novel methods for human-awareness since the 90s, first in Nokia. Traditional approaches delivered poor inputs in a rapidly and deeply changing world. Human-awareness brings novel value to thinking. It is important to not just ask what the buyer or consumer wants next but to understand human life and drawing insights to what is missing; where the opportunities are for the context at hand.

In addition she grew frustrated that for all the connectivity of the Internet the approaches were based on solo humans or organizations doing something alone, fragmented. Whether on social media pushing your agenda or on surveys responding cold and even in workshops you are, in a short amount of time, expected to deliver much value, with no time to mature and elaborate your own thinking, inspired by the thinking of others. The end result, as we have seen, is utter confusion, frustration and worse.

The most recent evolution with AI focuses on whether it is smarter than one human, we expect it to provide us all the answers but the world does not need regurgitated and recursive answers but good thinking and deliberation, taking into account many humans contributing from their experience and judgement of what matters, humanity’s what next.

The business and overall information approaches needed new approaches and Hunome has been uniquely designed with these challenges in mind.

Humans waste a lot of energy by not pooling our good thinking together and then acting on the understanding with strength. History shows the corrections but that is naturally delayed and wasteful.

    Dominique has 30+ years global business & corporate experience (e.g., Nokia 90s) in the domains that inform Hunome: futures and systemic thinking, scenario planning, strategy, vision creation, business design, human- and change-aware inputs, digital product creation & innovation & management, IT-services. Her startup journey started in the 80s in the US. Hunome is the second startup she founded, the first was an innovation community marketplace in Australia.

    Mika has 30 + years business experience in the domains of: sales, marketing, digital business and service design, and strategy and vision creation consulting. He has co-founded a number of product and consulting businesses since the 80s. He has researched, published, lectured and been a popular keynote speaker on digital sensemaking and business models at Aalto University.

We have since built Hunome team to a total of over 10 experienced diverse thinkers and doers from around the world—6 FTE.

Collectively, we utilise over 100 years of a unique combination of experience and expertise from startups, tech product creation, collective sensemaking and the meaning of human and world awareness in consumer and business decision-making.
